PAVIA GALLERY TO OPEN FLAGSHIP CAFÉ LOCATION AT
THE ART GALLERY OF NOVA SCOTIA

Halifax, October 27, 2015 – The Art Gallery of Nova Scotia is announcing the opening of a new fully licensed café. Located on the main floor off Hollis Street in Halifax, Pavia Gallery - Espresso Bar & Café plans to open its doors within the next three months following renovations.  With two locations within the new Halifax Central Library along with their original location in Herring Cove, Pavia will offer a special experience combining the best of their current locations through a beautiful setting and sophisticated ambiance reminiscent of European cafés, where people gather to discuss, reflect and appreciate the arts.

“We are thrilled to offer visitors and the community a new café destination in the coming months,” said Lisa Bugden, Interim CEO. “Not only will having a café onsite greatly enhance the visitor experience at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, it will also offer a stunning art-inspired meeting place for friends and colleagues, and a fabulous option for a specialty beverage on the go. Pavia has become renowned as a prime destination with foods and beverages in an elegant setting, and we’re looking forward to partnering on special events in the future.”

With a launch planned early in the New Year, the establishment will serve Italian-style specialty coffees, baked goods and light lunch fare, as well as a selection of organic Italian wines and cocktails – plus a signature cocktail offered exclusively the new location. As part of its ten-year lease agreement, Pavia will also become the exclusive caterer for on-site events at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia.

“As the most culturally-significant museum space in Atlantic Canada, this is the perfect fit for both the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia and Pavia Gallery – Espresso Bar & Café,” said Victoria Foulger, co-owner of Pavia. “With our gourmet offerings, refined setting and strong commitment to the arts, we hope to create a major destination for residents and Gallery visitors alike who are seeking a meaningful experience in a gorgeous environment. Co-owner Christopher Webb and I are very passionate about Pavia’s role within the community, and dedicated to offering the best to our patrons and the artists we represent.”

Light renovations are being undertaken to the café space and to the existing Gallery Shop, the latter having moved across the foyer and reopening in early November. Renovations will be contained within the café and shop spaces and will not affect visitors viewing exhibitions.

The Art Gallery of Nova Scotia looks forward to welcoming the public to a bustling new space, and to inviting Pavia guests to discover the world of art within the building as it continues to further engage people with the arts.
